The experience

The hall sits on the B1 level of Baekyangnuri beneath Yonsei University’s main pedestrian axis. Its 390 seats keep sightlines and listening distance compact, and the venue is used specifically for classical performance rather than general university events

That specialization shapes the rhythm of a visit. Audiences tend to arrive for a particular recital and leave through the wider campus complex, so there is less of the wandering associated with a large arts campus. The surrounding Yonsei setting adds energy before and after performances, especially on weekday evenings, while the auditorium itself remains controlled and focused. Because the hall is underground, the transition from the broad pedestrian campus into a small acoustic room is part of its character: the venue feels tucked into university life rather than separated from it

History

Kumho Art Hall Yonsei emerged from Yonsei University’s Baekyang-ro redevelopment. Construction of the underground Baekyangnuri complex began in 2013 and the project was completed in September 2015. Yonsei records that Kumho Art Hall, a 5,620-square-meter classical music hall with 390 seats, was built with a donation from Kumho Asiana Group

Its arrival also gave Kumho’s long-running recital and artist-development programs a permanent setting at Yonsei. Series associated with young performers, chamber music and the Beautiful Thursday line have helped the hall function as both a recital venue and a visible stage in Korea’s classical talent pipeline

Before you go

The main practical challenge is finding the hall inside the university rather than finding Yonsei itself. The address points to Baekyangnuri B1, so once you reach campus, follow signs for Baekyangnuri and Kumho Art Hall instead of heading toward Yonsei’s other performance facilities

If you are coming by subway, Sinchon Station on Line 2 is the standard approach. Allow additional walking time through the campus, especially on a first visit, because reaching the university gate is only the first part of the route
