Anmyeondo Jurassic Museum
A dinosaur-focused natural-history museum in Taean pairing a substantial genuine-fossil collection with a large outdoor Jurassic park
Authentic dinosaur fossils, full skeletal mounts, fossil and geology learning, guided interpretation, children’s mission sheets and outdoor dinosaur displays
A three-floor museum set inside a 36,000-square-metre Jurassic park, with the main exhibition building, an AR/VR dinosaur-media hall and a separate astronomy center with a planetarium and telescope observatories
The real collection gives the attraction its weight: genuine fossils inside make the life-size reconstructions and family play outside more than decorative dinosaur scenery
The dinosaurs begin as evidence
Inside the museum, the dinosaurs begin as evidence. The collection includes genuine fossils and major skeletal specimens from several countries; outside, life-size moving dinosaur figures turn that scientific material into a reconstructed landscape built for families
Genuine dinosaur material is the collection’s central strength. Major displays include specimens connected with the Morrison Formation in the United States, a Suuwassea skeleton, Spinosaurus material, pterosaurs and marine reptiles, plus later mammals such as Gomphotherium and Platybelodon
That changes how the large reconstructions outside read. The park can be enjoyed as family spectacle, but the building gives children a way to compare reconstructed bodies with the fragments and skeletons from which paleontologists work
The museum also keeps smaller-scale evidence in view. Fossil stories, mission sheets for younger visitors and the basement education room turn the collection into something to identify and handle conceptually rather than only photograph
A museum inside a dinosaur landscape
The main building occupies about 2,290 square metres within a site of roughly 36,000 square metres. The grounds are planted with native pines and wildflowers, with a waterfall and life-size moving dinosaurs distributed outside
This makes the site physically different from a museum contained by its walls. A standard museum ticket includes the outdoor park as well as the main exhibition building, so the visit moves repeatedly between collected evidence and reconstructed scale
The contrast also helps with younger children. Indoor galleries carry the denser fossil and natural-history material; the outdoor areas, play structures and large figures break that concentration into shorter stretches. Families can therefore use the site as a longer outing without depending entirely on interactive screens
The media hall adds dinosaur-themed trick art, augmented-reality and VR experiences, an AR diorama and a video theater. The separate astronomy center has a planetarium and telescope observatories for solar and night-sky viewing; both remain optional additions to the fossil museum and outdoor Jurassic park
The collection was the starting point
Anmyeondo Jurassic Museum opened on July 5, 2011. Its opening exhibition marked Korea–Mongolia diplomatic relations with eight genuine Mongolian dinosaur fossils, including Mononykus, Velociraptor with Protoceratops, Gallimimus, Tarbosaurus and Saichania material
That first exhibition established a collection-first identity from the beginning. The institution later expanded its educational work through guided museum tours, fossil-themed activities and excavation or model-making programs
The educational format is practical rather than theatrical. Guided tours can be arranged for small groups, while children receive age-targeted mission sheets at entry. The basement education space is used for fossil casting, dinosaur model making and geology activities
The museum therefore works on two levels at once: a visually immediate family dinosaur destination and a specialist collection whose real objects can support closer looking
Before you go
General vehicles stay in the lower parking area, and visitors walk uphill from the ticketing area toward the museum complex. Limited stroller loans are available inside the main building, but the strollers cannot be taken into the outdoor park
The basic museum ticket includes the main museum and outdoor Jurassic park. The AR/VR media hall and astronomy center use separate or combined ticket options, so the combined ticket adds a dinosaur-media experience plus a planetarium-and-observatory visit rather than another fossil gallery
