Daegu Aquarium
A family aquarium on the ninth floor of Shinsegae Daegu, combining manatees, marine tanks, small-animal zones and interactive displays directly beside Dongdaegu Station
Manatee feeding talks, 360-degree ceiling tanks, over-water viewing, small-animal encounters, digital drawing activities and optional animal feeding
A single-floor indoor aquarium inside Shinsegae Daegu, organized through themed tanks, overhead and elevated viewing, animal zones and performance spaces
The physical viewing design is its clearest strength: several of the memorable exhibits change where the visitor stands in relation to the water instead of simply enlarging the tank
A ninth-floor aquarium is built around changing viewpoints
Daegu Aquarium sits on the ninth floor of Shinsegae Daegu, directly beside Dongdaegu Station. Inside, the route keeps changing the viewer’s position around water: fish pass overhead, below a bridge and through mirrored or panoramic tanks, so the view never settles into one wall of glass
The 360-degree ceiling tank sends schools of silver fish across a transparent dome overhead. The Sea Cloud Bridge reverses the angle by putting visitors above a tank, looking down into the water, while the Sea Maze uses mirrors and lighting to break up the usual straight aquarium corridor
A digital Colored-Pencil Aquarium adds another shift: children draw a sea creature and watch the image appear animated on screen
The manatee is the animal anchor
The aquarium treats the manatee as its representative animal and builds a feeding-and-talk program around it. Here the draw is close-range viewing rather than another dome or bridge effect: visitors can watch the animal swimming up close, while the talk adds feeding behavior and physical features to what is visible in the tank
The collection also moves beyond fish. A cave-themed area introduces small land animals, while close-up cameras in the bird area enlarge details of parrots, otters and other animals on a large screen. Paid feeding experiences currently include otters, carp, prairie dogs and parrots
The mix makes the visit broader than its marine title suggests, but the strongest moments still come from how the tanks are viewed: overhead, from above and through curved or mirrored surfaces
The station and department store are part of the visit geometry
The aquarium occupies the ninth floor of a major transport-and-retail complex. KTX and SRT passengers arriving at Dongdaegu Station can enter Shinsegae directly from the station side, while Daegu Metro Line 1 connects to the department store through Exit 2
That location makes the aquarium unusually easy to fit around arrival or departure time. It also means there is no outdoor approach or standalone aquarium building to navigate; the practical route is through the department store to the ninth floor
