KORInform take

The age split is the useful idea here: the building changes scale and activity type at 31 months instead of forcing infants and older children through the same play environment

The 1983 children’s center was rebuilt around age

Daegu Children’s World reopened in 2023 inside a civic children’s center first established in 1983. The rebuild did more than refresh the rooms: it divided the experience by developmental stage, giving infants their own first-floor zone and older children a set of 90-minute expeditions upstairs

The original center grew out of a citywide fundraising effort and spent roughly four decades as a familiar public children’s institution. After a three-year renovation, it returned with a new name, new interactive galleries and the old Kkeokkori Theater still part of the complex

Play galleries, performances, classes and a picnic room still share the same public institution

Thirty-one months changes the whole route

Children up to 30 months use the first-floor Baby Dream Expedition. From 31 months through age nine, the main experience moves to the second floor, where Nature, Society and Time expeditions run in fixed 90-minute sessions

The age split is physical as well as administrative. Older children move through bridges, tunnels, digital and hands-on stations; infants have a separate environment built around their own scale and movement. Strollers are kept outside the experience halls in a first-floor storage area

Palgongsan becomes a children’s ecosystem

The Nature Expedition is rooted in Daegu rather than a generic cartoon forest. Its setting is based on Palgongsan, with a daytime forest, a night forest and a river-and-wetland section

Children encounter a honeybee world, hidden nocturnal animals, constellations, pond life, wetland treasure hunts and an otter hide-and-seek activity. Physical play is mixed with AR and observation, so the 90-minute session keeps changing the way the child interacts with the same ecological theme

Society Expedition moves through village and city settings, while Time Expedition is a dedicated video hall. The third floor adds creative rooms, exhibition space and a picnic room where families can eat food brought from outside

Before you go

The 31-month age cutoff changes which experience hall a child uses, so siblings on opposite sides of that line may not follow exactly the same route. The experience halls also do not allow strollers; the designated storage area is on the first floor
