Oktokki Space Center

옥토끼우주센터

A large Ganghwa family theme park built around an indoor aerospace museum, physical space-simulation rides and an outdoor world of dinosaurs, robots and seasonal play

On the program

Aerospace exhibits, G-force simulation, hands-on science, moving dinosaur figures, outdoor rides, sledding and seasonal water play

The setting

A multi-level spiral museum building linked to a large outdoor theme park with moving dinosaurs, robots, sledding, water play, gardens and family rides

KORInform take

Its identity comes from the collision of real physical science experiences with unapologetically broad family-theme-park entertainment

The building starts the space lesson before the exhibits do

Oktokki’s main museum is a spiral of exposed concrete and stainless-steel mesh designed around two images: a spaceport and the body of a dinosaur. The route climbs through the building rather than moving room to room on one flat floor, so the architecture feels closer to a themed machine than a conventional science museum

Inside, the spiral route mixes displays with simple physical tests: visitors can feel how much insulation a spacesuit provides, examine the shuttle’s Canadarm robotic arm, and try on an onboard spacesuit beside a shuttle cockpit. The most physical stop is G-Force, a ride that lets visitors feel up to about 1.5G — a child-scaled version of launch acceleration

That emphasis on bodily experience is useful because the museum’s subject can otherwise become abstract quickly. Here, “gravity” arrives as pressure on the body before it returns to diagrams and explanations

Then the space museum spills outdoors

Outside, the center stops behaving like a museum. The official park now advertises 63 moving dinosaur figures, robots, a four-season sledding slope, water-play facilities, rides and Logos Garden

The jump is abrupt but intentional. A child can leave a display about aerospace technology and walk straight into a dinosaur forest or onto a sledding run. The result is closer to a full family theme park with a science core than to a specialist observatory or research museum

That matters for expectations. Families who arrive for “space” alone may be surprised by how much of the day is built around movement and play. Families with children who tire of galleries quickly may find the mix unusually forgiving

One ticket covers a very broad day

Ordinary entry does not require advance reservation, and the admission ticket covers the center’s standard facilities and experiences. Individual rides can still impose age, height, weight or health restrictions

That all-in structure changes how the place is used. Visitors can move between indoor science, ride experiences and outdoor play without repeatedly deciding whether another activity is worth an extra ticket. The center’s own guide map even offers different suggested routes for experience, learning, relaxation and night visits

The broad mix is also why a short stop undersells the place. Three to five hours is realistic once the outdoor sections are added to the indoor museum

Before you go

For families prioritizing aerospace content, the indoor museum works best as the first part of the day because the outdoor dinosaurs, sledding and play areas can easily absorb the remaining time. G-Force requires riders to be at least 110 centimetres tall and weigh at least 20 kilograms, so some younger children will not be able to use it
