Hyundai Motor is preparing a long-term overhaul of its Ulsan manufacturing complex as the company moves to make the site a core production base for future mobility. Hyundai CEO Choi Young-il met Ulsan Mayor Kim Sang-wook to discuss the investment plan and the cooperation that will be needed as older facilities are modernized and production processes are converted. The project is expected to involve large-scale spending rather than a single factory upgrade.

For Ulsan, the significance goes beyond one automaker. Hyundai's manufacturing footprint anchors a dense network of suppliers, logistics companies and skilled workers across the southeast. A shift in what the plant builds and how it operates can therefore affect the wider regional economy. City officials said they plan to support the project through permits and other administrative processes needed for the investment.

What remains undecided

The detailed timetable, investment size and exact production lines have not yet been fully disclosed. Those decisions will determine how quickly Hyundai can move from conventional manufacturing assets toward a more flexible future-mobility production system, and how much additional investment follows across the local supply chain.
