Simtek plans to invest 400 billion won in Cheongju to expand production of printed circuit boards used in AI servers and high-performance semiconductors. Same-day reporting says the company and Cheongju signed an investment agreement on September 2, with the project expected to add about 100 jobs. The expansion strengthens an existing manufacturing base rather than creating a new company presence from scratch.
An initial phase of roughly 274.2 billion won is focused on production facilities. The planned output includes SOCAMM memory-module substrates used for AI-server systems as well as advanced package and system-IC boards. That makes the investment more than a generic factory expansion: it is tied to components that sit inside the fast-growing AI computing supply chain.
Why the investment is tied to AI demand
For Cheongju, the project adds capital spending and skilled manufacturing employment. For Simtek, it is a bet that demand for AI infrastructure will support more advanced PCB capacity. The key next steps are construction and equipment deployment, followed by whether the new lines reach the expected utilization as AI-server demand develops.
