Abu Dhabi is preparing a dedicated manufacturing zone aimed at attracting Korean companies and production facilities, according to Dong-A Ilbo. The plan was outlined at the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum in Seoul, where an Abu Dhabi official said the emirate wants to connect Korean manufacturing and information-technology expertise with local capital, infrastructure and energy networks.

The report says Abu Dhabi authorities have set aside about 1 billion dollars, roughly 1.4 trillion won, for the Korea-focused industrial-zone project. Companies that decide to enter the market could receive support through measures including joint-investment arrangements with local institutions.

What the project still needs

The proposal expands a bilateral economic relationship that has already included the Barakah nuclear power project. Officials are now seeking a broader mix of advanced manufacturing, information and communications technology and artificial intelligence-related cooperation, moving the relationship beyond a single large infrastructure sector.

For Korean manufacturers, the practical value will depend on which sites, incentives and ownership structures are ultimately offered. The project is still at the planning stage, so the next important details are the timetable, participating companies and the terms attached to any investment support.
