A Samsung Electronics union centered on the DX division, which covers the company’s home-appliance, TV and smartphone businesses, began an open-ended relay protest outside executive chairman Lee Jae-yong’s residence in Seoul on September 18. The Donghaeng union said it wants direct talks with Lee over wage negotiations and performance bonuses. About 40 members attended the launch in Yongsan, according to Maeil Shinmun.

The union said earlier efforts to press its case in Suwon and Seocho, as well as a campaign in New York’s Times Square, had still not produced what it considers a proper dialogue table with the company. The protest raises pressure around labor relations in Samsung’s consumer-device business, but the available source evidence reflects the union’s account and does not include a Samsung response to the latest action.
