Novelis Korea will lift the partial lockout at its Yeongju plant at 10 p.m. on October 1 after more than two weeks of labor conflict. The company imposed the lockout on September 14 after a union strike disrupted normal operations, citing employee safety and equipment protection.
About 650 union members rallied on September 30 over wage negotiations and the performance-bonus system. Novelis said ending the lockout is an independent management decision and does not mean it has accepted a specific bargaining proposal.
