SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won visited the planned Gwangju semiconductor site on October 9 and said SK would build at the fastest possible pace if conditions allow. He said construction could begin before water and power systems are fully ready, with the two tracks coordinated as closely as possible, although a specific groundbreaking date has not been set.

The current plan is about two-thirds the size of the Yongin cluster, but it could expand if land and demand support it as semiconductor demand rises. Gwangju aims to begin site preparation in 2027, complete initial utility systems in 2028, finish the first production plant in 2029 and start mass production in June 2030.
