South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service has built an AI system to analyze about 380,000 reports, tips, complaints and illegal-finance advertisements. The system links scattered reports to identify cases that may belong to the same criminal organization, addressing the problem of treating related complaints as separate incidents. The regulator said the analysis found indications that some formally registered lending firms may have taken part in loan-shark operations, and it selected dozens of firms for victim interviews and on-site inspections.
Joint enforcement with relevant agencies is also planned, while the findings remain suspected violations rather than established wrongdoing.
