The Seoul Administrative Court rejected Coupang’s request to suspend a 423.575 billion won penalty imposed over a personal-data breach. The court said any loss from paying the penalty could be restored through monetary compensation and that Coupang had not sufficiently shown irreparable harm or an urgent need for suspension.
It separately suspended corrective and publication orders until 30 days after the first-instance judgment, while the regulator said about 37.5 million people’s personal information had been exposed. Coupang is challenging the sanctions through a cancellation lawsuit and is continuing to seek suspension of their effects.
