Fe01 Upcycled Complex Cultural Space
An upcycling art complex in Ulju-gun built around a large outdoor collection of sculptures made from discarded car and motorcycle parts
Junk-art sculpture, upcycling activities, special exhibitions, environmental-art programs and group exhibition explanations
Five outdoor themed sculpture zones form the main collection, with separate indoor or program spaces for special exhibitions and hands-on activities
Discarded vehicle parts remain recognizable inside Fe01’s robots, animals and other figures. Across roughly 1,200 outdoor works, the same basic material reappears in very different forms
Character
Around 1,200 outdoor sculptures at Fe01 are made from iron parts salvaged from discarded cars and motorcycles. Welded vehicle components become robots, animals, dinosaurs and movie-inspired figures across five themed exhibition areas
The name starts with Fe, the chemical symbol for iron. Fe01 connects its choice of material to Ulsan’s industrial identity and to Seosaeng-myeon, where the venue is located. In many sculptures, the original vehicle components remain easy to recognize inside the finished figure
The experience
The five outdoor themes are Robot Series, Expansion of Origins, Imagination Zoo, Jurassic Park and Movie Series. Together they contain roughly 1,200 sculptures. The subjects change from one zone to the next, while discarded automotive and motorcycle parts provide the common material throughout the collection
From a distance, the larger pieces read as recognizable figures. Up close, the reused machine parts are easier to pick out. Fe01 also runs junk-art and upcycling activities, and its program includes separate special exhibitions. If you are coming mainly for the sculptures, the five outdoor zones give you the main collection
History
Fe01 opened on 5 August 2022 with the junk-art exhibition “CONNECTION: Wishing for a Prayer.” An art-fair-style opening exhibition, Art Seosaeng, followed the next day
From the beginning, the venue’s own description connected its use of scrap iron with Ulsan’s industrial identity and Seosaeng’s association with nuclear power. Its sculptures use discarded car and motorcycle parts that are assembled and welded into new forms
During 2023, Fe01 introduced paid admission and the Korea Tourism Organization selected it as a Korea Unique Venue. The venue also continued developing special exhibitions, upcycling activities and group programs alongside the permanent outdoor sculpture collection
Before you go
The five main themed sculpture areas are outdoors, so most visitors will spend a substantial part of the visit outside. Workshops and other activity programs have their own schedules; look at the current program in advance if you want to add one to the sculpture visit
