A paved road to Jebudo appears and disappears with the Yellow Sea tide. Hwaseong lists the 2.3-kilometre crossing as opening twice a day, with the usable window changing daily; above the same water, the 2.12-kilometre Seohaerang cable car now links Jeongok Port to the island on a fixed aerial line

The two crossings reveal the same coast at different levels. On the road, the practical question is whether the sea has withdrawn enough to expose a safe route. From the cable car, the road, mudflats, marina, offshore turbines and surrounding islands sit within one wide tidal field

Jebudo itself extends the visit beyond the crossing. A 1.8-kilometre beach, Maebawi rock formations, tidal-flat experiences and the 860-metre coastal deck keep the shoreline in view after arrival

The experience

Check the tide table before deciding how to arrive. Driving or walking the sea road makes the opening of the crossing part of the day; the cable car avoids dependence on the road window, although wind and weather can still interrupt service

Walking the sea road takes about 40 minutes when it is open. On the island, the coastal deck provides a shorter 20–25 minute shoreline section, while the beach and Maebawi area suit a slower stop around low tide or sunset. The cable car adds the clearest overview because its route looks back across the road and mudflat system

History

Jebudo’s tidal road made the island nationally recognizable long before the cable car. Local management still publishes daily crossing windows from tidal forecasts, because the road can be used only when predicted water levels expose the causeway

The Seohaerang cable car added a second connection in late 2021, spanning 2.12 kilometres between Jeongok Port and Jebudo. Its terminals turned the crossing itself into a visitor attraction, with standard and glass-floor cabins looking over the mudflat and western sea

Before you go

Treat the road and cable car as separate systems. The sea road follows a dated tide timetable and actual conditions can shift from the published estimate; the cable car follows operating hours but can close early or suspend service in poor weather

For reduced mobility, the cable-car operator recommends boarding at the Jebu terminal because the approach to the Jeongok terminal is steep. If the tidal road is part of the plan, use the official Hwaseong crossing timetable for the exact date because the usable window changes daily
