A time capsule sits at the center of Dolsan Park with a date attached: 1 April 2098. It holds records of the campaign that merged Yeosu-si, Yeocheon-si and Yeocheon-gun into one city on 1 April 1998, and Yeosu City says the capsule will be opened exactly a century later

Dolsan gives that capsule unusual precision. The island town had belonged to Yeocheon-gun from 1949 until the 1998 merger. From the park, the view runs back across Dolsan Bridge toward central Yeosu; the cable car now spans the harbour to Jasan Park. A civic archive about becoming one city sits on ground that changed municipal identity with the event it records

The memorial is easy to overlook beside the park's larger visual attractions. Dolsan Bridge lies directly below, and Yeosu's waterfront, Janggundo and central districts spread across the water. After dark, the bridge lighting runs through eight programmed sequences capable of producing roughly 50 base colours, turning the same harbour into a deliberately staged night view

The experience

Dolsan Park occupies roughly 287,000 square metres above the northern end of Dolsan. Its viewpoints are broad rather than enclosed: bridge deck, harbour channels, island edges and the older city sit in one field of view. The time capsule adds a small civic object to a landscape otherwise dominated by infrastructure and water

The cable car is the moving part of the visit. Fifty cabins operate on the 1.5-kilometre line between Dolsan Park and Jasan Park, with a one-way crossing taking about 13 minutes. Standard cabins keep the view at eye level; crystal cabins add a glass floor over the water

The two stations also make the attraction function as a short transfer. Dolsan Station sits inside the park, while Jasan Station is beside the Odongdo and Expo side of central Yeosu. A one-way ticket changes districts; a round trip keeps the park as the base

History

Dolsan's modern administrative history is unusually visible here. When Yeosu-eup became Yeosu-si in 1949, the remaining rural townships were reorganized as Yeocheon-gun, including Dolsan. Dolsan-myeon became Dolsan-eup in 1980

Physical access changed soon after. Construction of Dolsan Bridge began in 1980 and the bridge opened in December 1984. The city created Dolsan Park above the bridgehead in 1987, giving the new road connection an elevated public overlook

The political map changed later. A citizen-initiated opinion survey on integrating the three Yeosu jurisdictions was held in September 1997, and Yeosu-si, Yeocheon-si and Yeocheon-gun formally became one Yeosu on 1 April 1998. Yeosu City's tourism record says documents related to that unification are sealed in the park's time capsule for opening on 1 April 2098

The maritime cable car came later, linking Dolsan Park with Jasan Park across 1.5 kilometres of harbour. Its present-day route sits beside an older memorial whose subject is the city itself
