Hadong County is lowering the cost of going to the movies by 3,000 won per person at Hadong Cinema, with the new support starting on August 24. The discount applies to standard 2D screenings and is designed to reduce the cost of cultural activities for local residents while giving the small regional cinema a stronger flow of customers.
The program is being run jointly with South Gyeongsang Province. Gyeongnam residents can receive the subsidy at the cinema by showing identification. Visitors from other provinces are also eligible when they can show a receipt from accommodation used in Gyeongnam, extending the benefit beyond local residents and linking the policy to tourism as well as cultural access.
Hadong says the support will continue until the available budget is exhausted. The immediate benefit is modest in cash terms, but the policy matters because smaller cities and counties often have fewer commercial cultural venues than major urban centers. Subsidizing attendance can help keep a local screen active, make cinema visits more affordable and encourage spending around the venue. It is therefore both a household-level discount and a local cultural-consumption measure rather than simply a one-off event promotion.
