A bill introduced in the National Assembly would create national support for Korea’s haenyeo fishing communities. The proposal includes settlement, health and livelihood assistance for women divers, as well as support for seafood sales and links to tourism and experience programs. Its stated aim is to make the tradition more sustainable as the workforce ages and fewer new divers enter the occupation.
