Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' has become the fastest film released in South Korea this year to pass 8 million admissions. Universal Pictures said the film reached the mark on its 24th day in theaters, two days faster than two other major releases that needed 26 days. It has remained No. 1 at the local box office since its Aug. 5 opening.
The film was also still carrying substantial momentum at the time of the milestone, with a 67.4 percent advance booking rate and more than 556,000 reservations reported Friday evening. That puts the 10 million-admission threshold within reach if the pace holds. The performance is also a reminder that premium theatrical formats remain a major draw in Korea, where IMAX screenings for the film have been especially popular.
