National Museum of Korea Director Yu Hong-jun resigned on October 21 after a calligraphy piece from his personal collection was presented as the work of an independence patriot, although it was attributed to a pro-Japanese figure. He said the controversy was his responsibility and that stepping down was necessary to restore the museum’s damaged reputation.

President Lee Jae-myung approved the resignation the same day, leaving the museum to address questions about exhibition review and public trust.
