Two Joseon-era books documenting Gyeongbuk food culture and cooking methods have been added to UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Memory of the World regional register. The decision was confirmed at the 11th session of the UNESCO Memory of the World Committee for Asia-Pacific, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, according to Gyeongbuk Province.
The books are Suunjapbang, a record of traditional recipes passed down through the Gwangsan Kim clan in the Yean area of Andong, and Eumsik Dimibang. Gyeongbuk now has four records on the regional register, following Korean House Plaques in 2016, Maninso in 2018 and Naebang Gasa in 2022.
