Korea's agricultural and seafood exports have passed $10 billion earlier in the year than ever before, reaching the mark in 253 days. The Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation said the milestone came 19 days sooner than last year's previous record, extending a pattern in which the industry has reached $10 billion progressively earlier since first crossing the level in 2021.
Exports to the United States rose 12.9 percent from a year earlier to about $1.81 billion, while shipments to China increased 14 percent to roughly $1.67 billion. The United Arab Emirates stood out with a 49.9 percent jump to about $332 million. Ramen remained a major growth engine, with exports up 27.2 percent to roughly $1.31 billion, while fresh products such as strawberries also recorded gains.
The faster milestone suggests the export base is broadening beyond a single market or product, although the final full-year result will depend on currency moves and demand through the remaining months. For Korean food companies, the question now is whether strong consumer interest can translate into durable distribution and shelf space overseas rather than short-lived trend demand.
