The share of surveyed South Korean companies planning to pay a Chuseok bonus fell to 61.0% this year. Among small and midsize companies, the figure was 45.1%, while expected household holiday spending averaged 728,630 won.

For households covering the gap with credit cards, installment conversion and revolving balances can carry substantial fees. The figures show holiday spending pressure rising at the same time that bonus coverage is becoming less common.
