South Korea’s three major mobile carriers must now notify postpaid customers every six months about the plan that best fits their usage. The requirement took effect on October 1 under an amended Telecommunications Business Act and applies to SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus.

The notice does not change a customer’s plan automatically, so subscribers must request any switch themselves. Customers should also compare bundled discounts and possible termination fees before changing plans, because a lower base fee may not reduce the total payment.
