The account is a three-year, freely funded savings product allowing monthly deposits of up to 500,000 won. The government provides a matching contribution of either 6% for the general type or 12% for the preferential type, and interest income is tax-exempt. According to the Financial Services Commission, when interest, matching contributions and tax benefits are considered together, the product has an estimated effect comparable to a conventional savings account offering 13.2% to 14.4% simple interest for the general type and 18.2% to 19.4% for the preferential type, based on the stated interest-rate assumptions.
The application review is scheduled for October 19 through November 13, with results expected on November 12 and 13. Approved applicants may open their accounts and begin deposits from November 16 through November 27. Existing Youth Leap Account holders may also apply to switch to the new account, but they must first receive approval, open the Youth Future Savings Account and then request a special early termination of the existing account for that purpose. Further details are available through the Youth Future Savings website or the Korea Inclusive Finance Agency financial counseling line at 1397, option 3.
