KTX fares have been frozen for 15 years, and a proposal to raise them in line with inflation has entered public discussion. Korea Railroad Corporation CEO Kim Tae-seung said during a parliamentary audit that an inflation-linked increase could be considered. He has also said that any fare adjustment would require public consent and agreement among political parties and economic ministries.
The debate comes as one in six trains reportedly arrives late and repairs to onboard convenience facilities can take about a month, but no specific increase has been decided.
