South Korea’s real GDP grew 1.0% in the third quarter of 2026, far exceeding the Bank of Korea’s 0.3% forecast, with year-on-year growth reaching 3.4%. Semiconductors drove the expansion, accounting for about half of total growth contribution, while computer, electronics and optical equipment made up roughly 60% of the contribution to year-on-year growth.

Exports rose 2.3% and equipment investment increased 4.1%, supported by stronger semiconductor and machinery demand. Private consumption fell 0.2%, leaving a clear split between an export and investment surge and continued weakness in domestic spending.
