South Korea has announced six new public housing sites in Gyeonggi Province that together could accommodate 76,700 households. The proposed sites are Ara in Gimpo with 37,000 homes, Guri Geonwon with 14,600, Hanam Misa K-Culture with 12,000, Gamil 2 with 6,500, Samnakwon in Uijeongbu with 2,600, and an expanded Daegok Station area in Goyang with 4,000. The government says it will use land including restricted-development areas within 5 kilometers of Seoul’s boundary and is targeting construction starts in 2030, while local governments are seeking transport links and employment or self-sufficiency land alongside housing.
The announcement is a candidate-site plan rather than a completed supply result, with requests including subway Line 9 and Line 3 extensions in Hanam, an industrial complex in Uijeongbu, and stronger metropolitan transport and fiscal support in Gimpo.
