The government will consult the National Assembly on delaying cryptocurrency income taxation for another two years, moving the proposed start date to 2029. Officials cited delays in exchange reporting systems and insufficient overseas transaction data, while the plan would retain a 22% tax including local income tax on annual net gains above 2.5 million won and introduce a three-year loss carryforward.

The proposal would mark the fourth postponement since the system was originally targeted for 2022, raising concerns about tax fairness and policy predictability.
