South Korea recorded a current account surplus of $61.46 billion in September, the largest monthly surplus on record and the first to exceed $60 billion. The January-to-September surplus reached $340.66 billion, while the goods surplus stood at $62.75 billion as semiconductor exports rose 260.3% year on year.
Strong exports drove the result, although the services account posted a $3.35 billion deficit, and the full-year surplus could exceed the Bank of Korea’s previous $45 billion forecast if the trend continues.
