US technology stocks suffered their sharpest broad sell-off since April 2025 as concern over tighter regulation of AI data-center construction followed a Democratic victory in the US midterm elections. The Nasdaq Composite fell 5.52% on November 5, while the S&P 500 dropped 4.36%, wiping about $2.5 trillion from Nasdaq-listed market value in a single day.
Korean investors holding US shares lost an estimated $9.9 billion, or roughly 13.4 trillion won, with semiconductor names including SanDisk and Micron among the hardest hit. The shock spread across Asian markets, including South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, as doubts grew over the pace and durability of AI investment.
