A planned metropolitan railway linking Seodaegu and Uiseong has cleared South Korea’s preliminary feasibility review, moving a new Donggumi Station much closer to reality. The station is reflected in the route plan near the eastern side of Gumi National Industrial Complex 3, according to Korean reporting on the review.
The practical significance is transport access. The southeastern part of Gumi has had limited direct access to the existing Gyeongbu rail corridor, while the industrial zone is home to semiconductor, defense and secondary-battery businesses. A metropolitan rail stop inside that area would give workers and companies another connection to the wider Daegu-Gyeongbuk transport network.
Passing the preliminary feasibility review does not mean trains will begin running immediately. It is an important national planning threshold that allows the project to move into later stages, including more detailed planning and construction preparation. The exact timetable and final operating arrangements still have to be confirmed.
What changes next
For residents, the useful question is no longer whether Donggumi Station is merely a local proposal, but how quickly the approved rail project can move from planning into construction. The next milestones will show when the new link could begin changing daily travel between Gumi and the broader metropolitan region.
