Daegu is opening applications for a student-loan relief program that combines interest support with help for some young borrowers who have fallen into delinquency. Applications run from September 1 through September 30.
For interest support, applicants must meet the city’s residence and university-status rules. As of September 1, either the applicant or a direct ascendant must be registered as living in Daegu, or the applicant must be enrolled in or on leave from an undergraduate or graduate program in Daegu or North Gyeongsang. Recent graduates from 2021 onward can also qualify under the stated conditions. From this year, income level is no longer a separate eligibility limit.
The city will cover eligible interest generated on Korea Student Aid Foundation general and income-contingent loans from the second half of 2025 through the first half of 2026. A separate credit-recovery track is available to borrowers aged 39 or younger who are registered as delinquent because of student-loan debt. Daegu can support the initial payment required to enter an installment repayment agreement with the foundation.
For applicants, the main practical point is timing: the application window closes September 30, and the city says submissions should be made through its online civil-service and public-program portal after checking the detailed eligibility notice.
