Uiryeong County has switched its special transport service for people with mobility difficulties from private outsourcing to direct county operation. The county says the change is the first municipal direct-operation model of its kind in Gyeongnam. Ten vehicles are assigned to the service, with eight based in Uiryeong-eup and two in Burim-myeon.
The service is intended for registered users who have difficulty using ordinary public transport. Residents can register locally and request rides through the integrated call center or the Gyeongnam mobility application. Bringing the operation inside the county gives local government direct responsibility for staffing, vehicle deployment and service quality instead of managing those functions through a contractor.
How the service now works
For users, the important issue is whether direct management improves availability and consistency, especially outside the county center. The evidence does not yet show changes in fares or operating hours. The county will now be judged on wait times, coverage and whether the ten-vehicle fleet can meet demand across both Uiryeong-eup and Burim-myeon.
