Daegu has made Beoman-ro toll-free after 24 years of paid operation, removing charges on the 7.25-kilometer, six-lane road linking Beommul-dong in Suseong District with the Ansim area of Dong District. The city says the road switched to full free use on September 1 after operating as a toll road since its opening in September 2002.
The change has an immediate practical effect for residents who regularly travel between eastern Daegu and Suseong. Drivers can now use the route without the previous toll burden, while the city is moving the road into a public management system intended to maintain stable operations after the end of the paid concession period.
The transition also changes how the road fits into the city’s broader transport network. Beoman-ro has served as an important connection between two parts of Daegu, and eliminating the charge can alter route choices for commuters who previously weighed travel time against toll costs. The city is also considering how to use space and facilities associated with the former toll operation.
A direct change for daily travel
The main issue to watch is how traffic patterns change after the free conversion and how Daegu manages the road under the new public system. For residents, however, the central change is already in effect: a route that charged drivers for more than two decades can now be used without a toll.
