Daegu International Airport is set to gain additional links with China after new traffic rights were allocated for routes to Beijing and Xiamen. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said the Daegu-Beijing rights went to Eastar Jet, while Trinity Airways received the Daegu-Xiamen rights.

Each airline was allocated rights for three flights a week. The routes are part of a broader allocation covering 25 international routes and 10 Korean carriers, with the ministry pointing to growing passenger demand between Korea and China.

More international capacity for a regional airport

For Daegu travelers, the added rights could widen direct options and reduce reliance on transfers through Seoul-area airports. They could also support inbound tourism from China, although the actual benefit will depend on when the airlines launch service and how schedules and fares are set.

The allocation does not by itself mean flights begin immediately. Airlines still need to complete operational preparations, but the decision gives Daegu a clearer path to rebuilding and expanding its international network.
