The Daegu Agricultural and Fishery Products Distribution Management Corporation is launching its first participatory-budget program, giving nearby residents and wholesale-market users a formal way to propose projects for the 2027 budget. Applications are open through September 26 and can be submitted through the corporation’s website.

The program is aimed at relatively small, one-year projects that respond to public needs around the wholesale market. Suggested topics can include improvements for market users and distribution workers, projects of local interest, or other measures that could improve the operation of the market and the corporation. Proposals that benefit only a particular individual or organization, or require unusually large budgets, are outside the intended scope.

Participatory budgeting is useful only if public proposals can survive screening and reach actual spending decisions, so the important stage comes after submissions close. The corporation will need to show which ideas were accepted, why others were rejected and how selected projects appear in the 2027 budget. For residents and regular market users, the current call is the first opportunity to test whether the new channel influences practical improvements.
