Gyeongju and Ulsan have agreed to deepen cooperation on transport and utility projects that cross their administrative boundary. Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young met Ulsan Mayor Kim Sang-wook on September 17 to discuss joint issues affecting communities that already function as a connected living and industrial area.
The agenda included widening National Route 7 between the Ulsan boundary and Oedong, building a four-lane link between Nongso and Oedong, expanding city-gas supply in eastern Gyeongju, extending Ulsan bus route 742 to Gampo, and developing a wider southeastern supra-regional rail network. Each project addresses a different gap, but together they reflect the amount of daily movement between the two cities.
The agreement does not mean every project is funded or ready for construction. Road, rail and gas projects involve different agencies, budgets and approval processes. The value of the cooperation will therefore depend on whether the cities can turn a shared list of priorities into coordinated applications and schedules. For residents near the boundary, progress would be visible through shorter trips, wider transit coverage and improved access to utilities.
