The first new train for the Gimpo Goldline expansion has arrived at the Gimpo Hangang train depot, but it will not carry passengers immediately. The train must complete 1,000 kilometers of test running on the depot tracks and main line, including checks of running stability and signal and communications integration, before commercial service can begin. Gimpo plans to place the first new train in service from late December and bring in four more trainsets sequentially through March.
Once all five are added, daily trainsets are expected to rise from 29 to 34 and daily services from 518 to 524, while the city aims to reduce peak intervals to about 2 minutes 10 seconds, although passenger crowding will also depend on deployment and demand.
