Goyang Aram Nuri Arts Center

๊ณ ์–‘ ์•„๋žŒ๋ˆ„๋ฆฌ

Specialized opera, concert and experimental stages give Ilsan a large purpose-built performing arts campus

On the program

Opera, ballet, orchestra concerts, experimental theater and gallery exhibitions

The setting

Three enclosed auditoriums, an outdoor theater and galleries near Jeongbalsan Station

KORInform take

The three halls provide genuinely different acoustic and theatrical environments within one suburban arts campus

A stage made for opera

The Aram Theater seats 1,887 people in a four-tier, horseshoe-shaped auditorium. Its orchestra pit, wide stage and backstage areas were designed for opera, ballet and major musicals. Productions can change the number of seats when the orchestra pit is in use

Goyang Aram Nuri opened on 4 May 2007 with a new ballet production of Chunhyang. Its professional stages brought major performances to the planned city of Ilsan, reducing the need for residents to travel into Seoul for opera or large concerts

Three rooms, three kinds of performance

The Aram Music Hall is a rectangular concert venue seating 1,449. Adjustable acoustic curtains help control how long sound reverberates, allowing different kinds of instrumental music to be heard with greater clarity. Its purpose is quite different from the opera theater's moving scenery and stage machinery

Saerasae Theater has a smaller audience but an unusual mechanical feature: sections of its seating platforms can move to create different arrangements. A performance can face the audience across a traditional stage or change the relationship between actors and spectators. The auditorium seats up to 304

Norumok Outdoor Theater faces the wooded slopes of Jeongbalsan and holds around 1,000 people. The Aram Art Museum, galleries and cultural spaces give the complex life beyond an evening concert

One foundation, two different centers

Goyang Cultural Foundation also manages Goyang Oulim Nuri, another performing-arts complex elsewhere in the city. Aram Nuri is beside Jeongbalsan Station; Oulim Nuri is nearer Wondang. Tickets name the particular facility and performance hall

When gallery opening hours and evening performances align, a visitor can spend time in both. Opera, orchestra and experimental productions use different buildings, so checking the hall on the reservation is especially important
