Character
Songdo Convensia opened in 2008 while the international business district around it was still taking shape. The convention center was early infrastructure for the kind of city Songdo intended to become: international, airport-linked and able to host large business events before the surrounding district was fully mature
A second phase in 2018 made that bet visible again. Two more exhibition halls, a grand ballroom and 12 additional meeting rooms were added to the original two halls, premier ballroom and 23 meeting rooms. The venue grew in step with the city instead of arriving after demand had already settled
The experience
Today the four exhibition halls total 17,021 square meters and can operate separately or as one large column-free event floor. Official venue material lists capacity for up to 900 standard booths and 20,000 theater-style attendees across the combined halls
The rest of the complex is designed for events that split into layers. Ballrooms handle plenary or banquet functions, while dozens of meeting rooms support breakouts, negotiations and smaller sessions. A consumer expo may use only the exhibition level; an international conference can spread across the entire building
That scale makes organizer instructions more important than the street address. Hall number, registration zone and session room determine which entrance and internal path save time. The surrounding Songdo district is spacious, but crossing the venue unnecessarily can still be a long walk
History
Phase one opened in October 2008 with Exhibition Halls 1 and 2, a premier ballroom and 23 meeting rooms. It was one of the early large public-facing facilities in Songdo International Business District
Phase two opened in July 2018. Exhibition Halls 3 and 4, a grand ballroom and 12 more meeting rooms brought the current total to four exhibition halls and 35 meeting rooms
The expansion occurred after Songdo’s hotel, retail, office and cultural infrastructure had become much more substantial than at the first opening. Today Central Park, major hotels, retail areas and other business facilities sit within the same wider district

Use the organizer’s event page as the primary practical guide. Registration desks, entrance rules and occupied halls change from one exhibition or conference to the next
