The Seoul Central District Court has scheduled a citizen-participation trial for former president Moon Jae-in and former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik in January. The case concerns bribery allegations related to employment provided to Moon's former son-in-law.
The court plans to hold the trial for roughly two weeks between January 11 and January 29. It has accepted 15 witnesses, including Moon's daughter and former son-in-law, and expects witness examination to take about five and a half days.
Moon and Lee had both requested a citizen-participation trial. The court agreed after narrowing the witness list and setting time limits intended to keep the proceeding manageable.
The January hearings will determine how the prosecution presents the alleged exchange of benefits and how the defendants respond. Scheduling the citizen-jury format does not determine the merits of the charges.
