South Korea's Democratic Party is considering moving a special-prosecutor bill aimed at investigating allegations of prosecution misconduct in several high-profile cases. A party official told MBC that lawmakers are reviewing whether to place the bill on the National Assembly's October 1 plenary-session agenda, while stressing that no final decision has been made.

The proposal concerns allegations surrounding the prosecution of cases including the Ssangbangwool remittance case and the Daejang-dong development case. One provision that had drawn controversy, which would have allowed the special prosecutor to seek cancellation of existing prosecutions, is expected to be removed after President Lee Jae Myung publicly called for its deletion.

The Democratic Party is also considering several other contentious bills for the same session. The People Power Party has signaled that it would use filibusters against the measures. Its lawmakers are due to discuss their response at a party meeting, setting up another procedural confrontation if the special-prosecutor bill is formally brought forward.
