The People Power Party says it will hold a large outdoor rally near Seoul City Hall on October 3, expanding its opposition activity beyond the National Assembly.
Party spokesperson Park Chung-kwon said the event is intended as a protest against the Lee Jae Myung administration and the Democratic Party. He said the party had already been considering an outdoor mobilization if public sentiment worsened during the Chuseok period and that practical preparations were complete.
Security and legislation are part of the message
The party cited economic and security concerns among the issues it plans to raise, including the recent North Korean mine incident and criticism of the government's handling of the North Korean prisoner-transfer controversy. Park also pointed to the ruling party's expected handling of legislation related to special-prosecutor cases.
The announcement marks a tactical shift toward street politics at the start of October. The scale of attendance, the messages chosen by party leaders and whether the rally becomes a one-off event or the start of a broader outside-parliament campaign will determine its political significance.
