Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon was acquitted on appeal on October 23 in the political funds case involving alleged payments for opinion polls linked to broker Myung Tae-gyun. The Seoul High Court overturned the first-trial sentence of a 10 million won fine, finding that the prosecutionโs direct evidence was limited to Myungโs testimony and that the testimony was difficult to rely on without sufficient corroboration.
Oh apologized for causing public concern, thanked supporters, and said he would focus on running Seoul, while the People Power Party welcomed the ruling. The special counsel said the decision was disappointing and indicated that it would appeal to the Supreme Court, leaving the legal dispute unresolved.
