Images taken from South Korea’s Aegibong observatory show equipment believed to be 122mm self-propelled guns positioned in North Korea’s Kaepung County, about 1.5 kilometers from Gimpo. The guns were unusually exposed to observation from the South, while nearby North Korean troops appeared to conduct flag-raising and lowering drills and displayed anti-American propaganda on an armored vehicle.

Seoul proposed military talks on October 23 to reduce the risk of accidental clashes, but Pyongyang had not responded two days later as the artillery deployment heightened concern along the border.
