A detained Jeju police officer accused of falsely closing missing-person cases has admitted that he did not actually speak with the missing people, reversing his earlier account after investigators presented phone-record evidence. Police say he had claimed he confirmed their safety before closing at least two reports.
In one case, records showed a false reason was entered into the police system and related information was later deleted. The admission adds a concrete evidentiary step to a case that has already triggered political visits to Jeju and demands for broader review.
