Construction at a station on the Seoul Subway Line 7 extension to Cheongna has been halted again after signs raised concerns about ground subsidence and groundwater conditions. The project has already experienced a lengthy earlier suspension, making the latest stop more than a routine construction pause for residents waiting for the extension.
Authorities are carrying out additional investigations, including ground-penetrating radar, gravity measurements and geological checks, before deciding how work can safely resume. The immediate issue is not simply schedule slippage: underground rail construction can change groundwater movement and soil conditions, so officials need to establish the cause of the readings before choosing a remediation method.
The new interruption is a material development because the Cheongna extension has already faced delays and the affected station cannot progress normally until the investigation is resolved. Incheon now has two pressures to manage at once: avoiding a safety shortcut and limiting further impact on the opening schedule. The next useful update will be the investigation result and a revised construction timetable, not another broad completion target.
