South Koreaโs Education Ministry has confirmed relief for 388 applicants after a system outage disrupted the 2027 college early-admissions application process. Officials had reviewed 1,400 of 1,588 submitted relief requests by the evening of September 16, with 188 cases still under examination.
The reported figure is a later and more definite update from an earlier assessment of roughly 250 potential relief cases. The disruption began during the application period, when some applicants could not complete forms or payments through the Uway Apply system.
Review focuses on records and fairness
Reporting from Maeil Shinmun and Kyunghyang Shinmun says the Education Ministry has also opened an investigation into the outage. The cases are not identical: applicants may have faced problems logging in, drafting an application, saving it or attempting payment, and the available system records will matter in reviewing each claim.
Seventeen universities were identified in reporting on a separate fairness issue after some applications were submitted once competition rates had been disclosed during an extension. Kyunghyang Shinmun reported that the ministry would consider cancellation if unfairness is confirmed, while also noting that missing logs could make relief harder in some cases.
The confirmed remedies offer relief to hundreds of applicants, but they do not close the episode. The number could still change as the remaining cases are reviewed and as the ministryโs investigation determines how the outage occurred and whether additional admissions safeguards are needed.
