Daegu police say a six-month crackdown on financial crime and cyber fraud led to the arrest of 1,059 suspects. The operation, which ran from March through August, identified 3,623 cases and resulted in 45 people being detained.

Illegal private lending accounted for the largest share of arrests in the financial-crime category, according to the police summary, followed by cases involving unauthorized fundraising and multilevel schemes.

Cybercrime cases included online marketplace and other forms of digital fraud. Police presented the figures as an interim result of a broader campaign focused on offenses that directly affect household finances.

The next measure of the operation will be how many cases proceed to prosecution and whether authorities extend or modify the enforcement campaign after reviewing the six-month results.
